StormTraX System
"Bracket Estimator" Information
How to estimate how many StormTraX brackets you will need for your home.
It's easy!
First Floor Windows
Basically, each window on the first floor will usually use 4 StormTraX "brackets."
On the first floor, any window (or opening, or series of windows) over 48" wide (including overlap onto the frame trim) will require two additional brackets, top and bottom, in the center of the top and bottom of the window. Our "Z" brackets can be used if your windows have flat trim around them, or on mobile homes;
a "V" bracket is also available for use on sloped sills that jut out beyond the wall.
If you have sills that jut out beyond the trim, use "V" brackets. We will custom bend, when you order, and adjust the brackets to fit the slope, and depth, of your sill. To assure correct angle: place sheet of paper on the exterior trim that meets the sill; fold paper on angle of the sill or maneuver paper so you can draw a line at the joint of the trim and the sill. Scan and email to us; be sure you name is on sheet. Tell us how far the sill juts out from the trim around the window as we may have to adjust how deep the base will be.
Another option on the smaller first floor windows is to mount the "Z" brackets on the wood or brick flanking the windows just above the jutting out sill; this will allow you to ignore the sill and allow some light in and an observation area at the bottom of the storm panel just above the sill. Use your imagination on mounting the brackets to suit your situation!
If your windows are more than 48" (four feet) wide (or a series of windows side-by-side) you will need to add additional brackets to allow for smaller storm panel sizes for easy handling. This is great for the elderly and special needs folks! To install the storm panel you will need to slide it up into the top bracket and then down into the bottom bracket. Smaller storm panels are lighter and easier to slide into place!
1" screws can them be put through the bracket into the storm panel to anchor it in place. Anchoring the bottom brackets into the storm panel will secure it, but, as you desire, you can add additional screws.
Here's the beauty of the StormTraX System !
Second Floor Windows
Windows, less than 40" wide, on the second floor, or above, will require, generally, six brackets; 3 located above and 3 below each window on the exterior trim. This will allow you to divide the storm panel in half for easier installation and anchoring. For second floor, and above, windows over about 40" wide, where you use 1/2" or thicker panels, I recommend dividing the panels into three sections for easy handing. That means you will need to add one more set of brackets for those windows. If you will look at the very honest video of me deploying the second floor panels, you will see why!
After you do the initial installation of your brackets on the upper floors, you can then, from the interior, slide each panel into place up into the upper bracket and down into the bottom bracket. On uppper floors, to anchor, you screw 1" screw from the inside to engage the hole in the bracket. We even detail a method of installing the brackets from the interior on hard-to-reach and difficult windows.
"No Ladder" deployment is the beauty
of the StormTraX System!
No hurricane or severe weather will ever catch you "off guard!" You will be able to install the storm panels safely, in minutes, and with minimum effort ! ORDER FORM
