StormTraX Systems brackets are designed to allow easy, quick, and safe installation of your choice of "storm panels" (OSB board, plywood, or other) that you provide and cut yourself to place over your windows in the event of a hurricane, blizzard, or severe weather.
The StormTrax Systems Brackets are 10 gauge galvanized steel (full 1/8 inch thick); they are pre-drilled for screws or "nailins" and primed for application of any paint; stainless steel screws can be provided for installation into the window frame on the exterior of a wood frame house ("nail-ins" for brick/masonry are also available). Brackets are designed to accommodate up to 3/4" storm panels. The most economical material is 1/2" OSB board cut to size. This is what I used on my home.
The unique brackets are designed for use both at the top and the bottom of the window on flat exterior window trim; the 3/4" "pocket" is used at the bottom of the window; the 1-1/2" "pocket" at the top. (See the "Drawings & Info" page.) This will enable you to slide your storm panel up into the top bracket and then drop it into the bottom bracket. Holes are pre-drilled in the brackets for anchorage of the storm panel. Besides our standard "Z" bracket, we also have a "V" bracket for use on sloped sills that jut out beyond the walls.
If you have those sills that jut out, the "Z" bracket can be used on the outside trim (brick or wood) just above the sills. This will give you some light inside the house and allow you to open windows opposite the wind "push" to relieve pressure inside your home. Put them an inch or so higher and you will be able to look out to observe what's going on.
Installation of the storm panels is easy! Removal easy as well!
Brackets can be installed "as is" (they come galvanized & primed for paint application in a gray color); and you can paint them to match your window frame color. When you paint them the color of the surrounding area...they practically disappear!
Two story home? No problem!
"NO LADDER" STORM PANEL DEPLOYMENT!
Because of the design of the brackets, windows on the second floor or above can be sized and cut
to allow installation and anchorage of the storm panels from the interior of the home quickly and without dangerous ladders. On those second story and above windows, an additional bracket (sometimes two) is installed in the middle of the window frame to allow the storm panels to be cut in half for easier installation, handling, and anchoring. For very high windows you can't safely reach with a ladder, there is even a form of installation where you can install the brackets from the interior of your home without using a ladder !
Detailed installation instructions are provided with your order. Even an inexperienced "handyman" can easily install and use these brackets.
